Meal Plan FAQs

  • Can I purchase more commuter plans once my current meals run out?
Yes! Once you have exhausted your commuter meals, you may purchase an additional commuter meal plan.
  • If I don't use all of my meals in a given week, do they carry over to the following week?
No. Meals do not carry over from week to week. Therefore, it is important to select the best dining plan based on your academic schedule, eating habits and social life.
  • What is meal equivalency?
Meal equivalency is a meal exchange whereby students with a meal plan have the choice of eating in the retail locations in lieu of dining in the Dining Hall. If the price of your meal plan exceeds the meal equivalency rate, then the remaining balance owed will be paid with credit card, flex dollars, or cash.
  • Can I receive a refund for any meals remaining on the plan at the end of the semester?
No. Refunds are not issued for meals left on the meal plan.
  • What if I lose my card?
Report it immediately to the campus police (804) 257–5850.
  • What if I am requesting a dietary exception?
To inquire about the procedure, please contact: Kristie White (804) 257–5868 and Dr. Deborah Martin (804) 257–5828.
  • What are the casual meal rates?
Breakfast: $5.12 plus tax Lunch: $7.70 plus tax Dinner: $10.05 plus tax Brunch: $7.45 plus tax
  • Can I treat a guest by using two “meals” in one meal period?
Your resident meal plan is non-transferable and does not allow you to “treat” a guest. Your guest will have to pay the daily rate posted at the entrance of the Dining Hall. However, if you have a commuter meal plan, you may treat a guest in one meal period.
  • For Parents
When you purchase one of our Meal Plans for your son or daughter, you are participating in a program that is designed to provide students with a wide range of options. Of course, it’s not just about the food, our programs are constantly changing to address the issues of nutrition and health as well as create an atmosphere that makes Dining Services a relaxing break in the day from the pressures of student life. Diners enjoy theme meals and special events to make dining a social event with friends. You can e-mail us at unit93@thompsonhospitality.com, if you have any concerns, comments or need advice on which plan best suits your needs. Please let us know in our Contact Us page.
